Break Schedule

The main goal of EyesTrain was to help you follow the 20-20-20 rule, but you can of course do much more than that.

In Preferences -> Breaks you can add as many different breaks as you want by clicking "Add new break".

There are two different kinds of breaks which are determined by the "Trigger":

Interval

This is the default break time and it's similar to a kitchen timer, except it's repeating. For example the default 20-20-20 break will have an interval of 20 minutes.

It is possible to add multiple interval breaks. A good example of this could be when you want to add short breaks to give your eyes some rest, but you also want a longer break every now and then to get up and move.

short and long interval break schedule

You could also implement the Pomodoro method using interval breaks. With the pomodoro technique you take 5 minute breaks every 25 minutes, and then take a longer 15-30 minute break every 2 hours.

Fixed Time

Fixed time breaks are more similar to an alarm and always occur on a specific time of the day. These can be useful if you want to remind yourself to take a lunch break on time or maybe for doing a specific non-screen chore.

It is possible to have different interval breaks as well as fixed time breaks.
